After decades working as a visual artist, a musical voice began to take shape within me. Quietly tinkering on the piano at night when the rest of the house was asleep, I carved out melodies echoing emotions I kept buried by day. Words followed the music. The more I played, the more I healed. Tangled thoughts unravelled, cradled by the simple framework of a verse and a chorus.
Reflecting on what’s become nearly 10 years of songwriting and over 50 compositions, I can read the emotional history of my life. Each song is like a stoplight on a busy street, marking the beginnings, the ends, and the winding turns that carried me through the people and places I’ve known. Whether it takes the form of soothing ballad, an ambient electronic track, or a satirical country tune, every song embodies a ritualistic practice of tuning in to my spirit and revealing truths that reach beyond the limitations of societal categories or genres.
